Vintage Suzani Kanthas

A Vintage Suzani Kantha begins as layers of vintage cotton — reclaimed fabric, already softened, already carrying the colour and pattern decisions of whoever made it first. Those layers are quilted together by hand with the kantha running stitch, worked across the entire surface until the cloth holds as one. That alone would be enough. But then a second craft begins: suzani embroidery, stitched on top of the quilted base, its medallions and flowering vines covering the surface with threadwork that takes weeks to complete.

Because the vintage cotton base is never the same twice; different saris, different colours, different combinations, and because the embroidery is worked by hand, no two pieces in this collection are identical. The one you receive exists once. When it is gone, that particular throw cannot be made again.
